Salman Toor

Salman Toor was born in Lahore, Pakistan and later moved to Brooklyn, New York to start his art career. He obtained a Master's of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute and later received a Bachelor's of Fine Arts with Honor at Ohio Wesleyan University. Toor has had several solo exhibitions from 2005-2020, most of which at Aicon Gallery and Canvas Gallery in New York and Pakistan respectively. He has also participated in many group exhibitions in his time. His CV mostly details his gallery appearances.



Untitled, 2016

I enjoy this piece because I think it has a great balance of color and while the forms are clearly stylized, they have a good sense of intentional proportionality. I like all of the textures within the piece. I also enjoy the feeling that is conveyed, especially with the use of the almost cartoonish speech bubbles, elevated to fine art.


Ghost Story, 2019

This is part of Toor's later works where he made a variety of green tinted paintings of gatherings. I like the closeness of the figures and the way he paints shadows in his piece. It is also nice how there is a hierarchy of detail, as the wall details are painted green to blend in more with the background to emphasize the contrasting red figures.
